The Director of Nursing and Midwifery of Royal North Shore Hospital leads, directs, plans and manages the nursing and midwifery workforce to ensure the effective and efficient provision of Person Centered Care.  RNSH is a tertiary and quaternary hospital.  The site facilities have been through a significant rebuild in the past 5 years.

RNSH is located in St Leonards. The role of the DoN&M is part of the RNSH executive team and works closely with the LHD DoN&M.

What you'll be doing
The Director, Nursing and Midwifery (DoNM) RNSH is a senior member of the RNSH Executive, and as such participates in all decisions and accountabilities regarding the management of the Hospital.  

The DoNM has primary responsibility for:-

  • Professional nursing and midwifery matters at RNSH
  • Nursing Clinical Resources
  • Patient Flow
  • Falls
  • Wound Management 
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Counter Disaster
  • Nursing and Midwifery Education and Training

Employees must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct. Criminal record checks will be undertaken on successful applicants and applicants for positions designated as Category A will be required to obtain required vaccinations prior to commencing employment. 

 

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:       


  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrate these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and "Authority to Practice" and post graduate qualifications at a Masters level relevant to the position or equivalent experience.
  3. Broad clinical experience and nursing/ midwifery management expertise at a senior level within a hospital setting, including proven experience in successfully planning and achieving financial, services, operational, workforce and strategic outcomes, incorporating current health service governance, continuous improvement and patient safety focuses.
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in managing current issues in nursing workforce, nursing education and training and industrial requirements for nurses.
  5. Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills of a high order including the ability to communicate effectively (using verbal, written and information technology media) with a wide range of stakeholders including patients, public, NSW Health and government representatives and conduct complex negotiations. Proven effective ability to motivate, inspire and manage staff and work successfully with other disciplines in the management of health care services to achieve professional and organisational objectives.

  7. Demonstrated experience in successful project/change management from inception through to evaluation and completion, including human resource, financial and risk management and the ability to develop, implement and evaluate associated evidence based policies and procedures.
