Detail information about job Research Officer, Imaging. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research is Australia's oldest medical research institute. Based in the heart of Melbourne's biomedical precinct in Parkville, the Institute has more than 800 researchers who are working to understand, prevent and treat diseases including cancer, infectious diseases and immune disorders. More than 100 national and international clinical trials are underway based on research undertaken at the Institute

An excellent opportunity exists for an experienced postdoctoral scientist to join the Centre for Dynamic Imaging within the Systems Biology & Personalised Medicine Division.

Quantitative microscopy is a powerful tool for biomedical research as it enables biology to be studied across a broad range of scales in both space and time. This position requires a highly motivated, well organised and energetic scientist with a background in biology, optical physics and electronic engineering to help establish the next generation of optical imaging techniques for 3- and 4-dimensional microscopy.

We are looking for a candidate who can collaborate closely with biologists, including some of Australia’s leading research scientists to apply Lattice light sheet microscopy to studies on cancer, immune disorders and infectious diseases. Expertise in advanced optics and lasers, as well as experience in building and customizing light microscopy platforms is essential. The candidate should also possess advanced computer skills and experience working with programming software (e.g. MatLab, LabView). Prior experience with Lattice light sheet microscopy would be an advantage.

The appointee will possess a PhD in Physics, Engineering or Biology.  This position would suit a self-motivated individual with a high-level of attention to detail who is capable of working with minimal supervision within a team of scientists that are dedicated to developing a world-class optical imaging platform at the Institute.
