The Telethon Kids Institute is one of the nation's leading medical research organisations with impressive facilities in Subiaco, Western Australia. It is home to more than 500 staff and postgraduate students who are dedicated to tackling the major causes of childhood disease, disability and disadvantage. Our research teams are among the world's best and we have strong affiliations with Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and all the major Western Australian universities, particularly The University of Western Australia and Curtin University.

2018 will be a significant year for the Telethon Kids Institute with a move to brand new premises within the new children's hospital building at the QEII Campus in Nedlands. The new building will see the Telethon Kids Institute co-located with the new Perth Children's Hospital and housed in state-of-the-art premises with increased space and improved access to leading edge technology and research facilities.

 

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a researcher with experience in consultative research methods to work with the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes Research Impact Working Group on a project aiming to support medical research institutes to maximise their research impact. The applicant should have excellent interpersonal skills as the project will involve significant stakeholder involvement across all states and territories.

The Role:

The researcher will work towards the development of a framework of good practices and indicators in consultation with medical research institutes representing a range of research priorities. In consultation with the Working Group, the researcher will perform an integrative literature review, design the research methods as well as co-ordinate the production and dissemination of educational and research materials. They will also be responsible for the analysis of data, and the preparation of reports and publications. The position will work closely with the Telethon Kids Institute Research Development Unit on the project and will be co-located with the Health Promotion & Education Research team. Applicants who are unable to re-locate to Perth for the duration of the Project may be considered in special circumstances.

Experience:

  • Design and execute a participatory research project
  • Develop project plan and manage project
  • Engage, co-ordinate and work collaboratively with stakeholders
  • Co-ordinate stakeholder meetings
  • Design educational material for stakeholders
  • Prepare environmental scan, literature review and ethics applications
  • Develop a framework of research impact indicators and good practices based on the findings
  • Dissemination of research findings

Requirements for the role include:

  • Degree in Science, Health Sciences, Public Health or Social Sciences or related field
  • Experience in performing consultative research process based studies
  • Experience in project management
  • Ability to effectively communicate research findings to diverse audiences
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders
  • Experience in reporting project progress and outcomes

The Telethon Kids Institute provides a flexible research environment for part time researchers, and recognises the dynamic commitments of individuals outside of work. The researcher will periodically be required to travel nationally for short periods.
 
This is a half time (0.5FTE) position for a fixed term of 2 years. Salary range will be between $75,000 to $81,000 depending on experience. Remuneration package includes access to generous salary packaging.
 
The successful candidate will be asked to provide a satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
