Purpose of Position

The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing clinical care to children and adolescents within St George Hospital & Health Services.  Clinical care shall be provided in accordance with current standards of clinical practice and with regard to the standards set by the SESLHD, AHPRA and RANZCP.

The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing clinical leadership for the service units to which they are attached. Other duties include supervision of junior medical staff (including psychiatry registrars and junior medical officers), training of psychiatry trainees in accordance with RANZCP or other appropriate requirements, teaching of medical students and other staff.

Seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership and clinical care to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (based in Caringbah and Hurstville) and to relevant patients of the Mental Health Unit and Paediatrics Ward of both The Sutherland Hospital Caringbah and St George Hospital Kogarah.

The successful applicant will also provide consultations for General Hospital In-Patients referred by the Consultant-Liaison Psychiatry Team.

Other duties include supervision of junior medical staff (including psychiatry registrars and junior medical officers), training of psychiatry trainees in accordance with RANZCP or other appropriate requirements, and the teaching of medical students and other staff.

Selection Criteria

1. Current registration or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 2. Fellowship of the RANZCP and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award. 3. Demonstrated sub-speciality expertise in child & adolescent mental health. 4. Demonstrated ability to deliver clinical services as an active member of a multidisciplinary team. 5. Demonstrated experience in teaching psychiatry to medical students and trainee psychiatrists. 6. Demonstrated understanding of quality improvement and clinical governance principles. 7. Demonstrated commitment to and participation in continuing medical education/professional development. 8. Hold or eligible for an unrestricted NSW driver’s licence, minimum Class C.
