Where you’ll be working Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals with 500 beds, over 63,000 emergency presentations and treats more than 48,000 patients annually. It is the region’s tertiary referral hospital and provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and community-based services including; aged care, allied health, medicine and critical care, surgical and medical services, outpatient and referral services. What you'll be doing The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) Level 2 - Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) provides leadership and management of the team who provide clinical care, administrative management and budget responsibility for the services. The PACU NUM is a dynamic role that collaborates, leads and promotes best practice nursing care in the PACU and promotes a work place culture of safety for all in the unit. This is inclusive of, but not limited to, all care provided to patients immediately post-surgery whilst the patient is emerging from the anaesthetised state, ensuring efficient and patient centred services to enhance the patients journey and the patients immediate post-operative recovery, pain control and haemodynamic stability prior to transfer from the PACU Service. The position is responsible for ensuring adherence to District, Hospital and unit/ward/service policies and to nursing procedures, standards and practices. The NUM of PACU liaises with the Perioperative Services Team Leaders and Managers as well as Wollongong Hospital’s Executive Management to ensure the achievement and operationalisation of service initiatives which achieve best patient outcomes. The NUM ensures the delivery of quality, compassionate, culturally competent, cost-effective and efficient nursing care to individuals, families and groups, and communities within the Local Health District. The NUM maintains effective communication and liaises with the Perioperative Services Team and the inpatient ward NUM’s to ensure continuity of care objectives are achieved and effective patient flow. The NUM is a member of - WH Nursing and Midwifery Leadership Management Team. Successful applicants to the role must provide certified documentation of vaccination history and pathology as part of their recruitment documentation. Relevant tertiary qualifications or working towards the same; or alternatively relevant work experience or combination of qualification and work experience in a management role. Demonstrated experience in PACU speciality. Demonstrated skills in leadership and management within the healthcare setting. Demonstrated ability to evaluate clinical services and manage change. Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate and achieve a vision for nursing/maternity services.
