A great opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Manager with the Dubbo Branch of Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology (DHM), part of the Sonic Healthcare Group.

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the management of more than twelve employees, laboratory operations and quality, including meeting the NATA, NPAAC, ANZSBT and other regularity requirements.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivated and talented scientist to participate at a senior level in Australia’s premier private pathology company.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person with good interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer service. The successful applicant will have extensive knowledge of pathology laboratory operation, good organisational skills and dedication to planning and problem solving. Well-developed communication skills and an enthusiastic and flexible approach to the work environment are essential.

Also required for the position:

  • Relevant degree from a recognised tertiary institution (postgraduate qualifications an advantage)
  • At least 5-10 years’ full-time practical experience in the relevant haematology, blood bank and biochemistry disciplines
  • Knowledge of and experience in relevant testing methodologies (automated and manual) in the laboratory
  • Proven management experience in operating technical departments
  • Strong people management skills
  • Proven ability to work within a tight financial framework
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory and quality requirements
  • A customer-focused approach
  • Proven ability in preparation and presentation of papers and reports
  • Innovation in seeking and introducing new tests and methodologies
  • Proven ability to liaise with doctors and hospital staff
