A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse to lead our mental health service for the care of older persons at Northern Beaches Hospital.

As the Nursing Unit Manager, Older Persons Unit you will make an impact by effectively managing the day to day operations of the older persons ward and coordinating the delivery of nursing care that is evidence based. The role encompasses planning, implementing and evaluating practices, processes and services within the ward.

Treatment & care follows the principles of patient-centred care and implementing a contemporary Recovery model of care across the Mental Health Service with active involvement from family & carers, an unrestrictive, safe environment, multidisciplinary approach to interventions, with holistic & self-care where possible and ongoing support through community services.


You will:
  • provide operational direction for the ward to ensure efficient and effective management
  • coordinate the delivery of nursing care that is evidence based
  • implement Recovery model of care
  • ensure the delivery of excellent patient and family centred care in a team focused environment
  • provide guidance, mentoring and support to your team
  • be accountable for the effective management of human, financial and material
  • maintain customer service at optimal levels
  • undertake direct patient care, as required

Opening October 2018, Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) will be a fully licensed private hospital, providing care to public and private patients from an outstanding new facility with a large range of quality services provided by exceptional nurses, doctors, allied health and non-clinical staff.


An experienced Manager with a passion for developing talent within the team, you will also possess the following skills and attributes:
  • Current Registration with AHPRA
  • Post graduate Mental Health qualification
  • Formal management qualifications or working towards
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem solving skills
  • Experience in the mental health setting for the care of older persons and implementing a Recovery model of care
  • Proven experience building and leading high performing teams with a service excellence approach
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive working relations with a wide range of diverse stakeholders
  • Proven high level communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and creative thinking
  • A commitment to a high standard of clinical and patient focused care
  • Ability to adopt a strategic overview whilst managing complex, challenging and demanding daily operational issues
  • High degree of computer literacy
