Health Information Manager/Clinical Coder, Full Time
The Hospital
Lake Macquarie Private Hospital is a 187 bed acute Advanced Surgical and Medical Hospital situated 15km south of the Newcastle CBD. The hospital is owned and operated by Ramsay Health Care Limited, the largest operator of private hospitals in Australia. Specialties include: Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, General Surgery (including Colorectal), Breast Surgery, Plastics, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Vascular and Oncology.
In March 2015 the region’s first Private Emergency Department was opened at Lake Macquarie Private, providing another option for people requiring emergency care. The hospital is also home to the Hunter Cancer Centre, the Hunter Region's only comprehensive private oncology service providing Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Research, Support Services and Education all located on the one campus.
The Position
We are seeking a qualified and motivated Health Information Manager/Clinical Coder to join our supportive team, working on an interesting and diverse casemix. New graduate HIMs are encouraged to apply.
Supporting and reporting to the Health Information Manager, the successful applicant will provide accurate and timely abstracting and ICD-10-AM/ACHI code assignment in accordance with current Australian Coding Standards, coding rules and conventions, and be involved in coding quality, medicolegal and other HIM activities.
The successful applicant will value teamwork, be results-driven, and have excellent attention to detail.
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor of Health Information Management, Master of Health Information Management or equivalent
- Experience coding using ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS
- Knowledge of DRG-based funding, ability to identify deficiencies in documentation and recognise the impact on DRG
- Understanding of privacy legislation and commitment to principles of confidentiality
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with an ability to prioritise work and achieve specific deadlines
- Effective teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated computer skills: patient administration system, MS Office, 3M Codefinder software
Desirable Criteria
- Coding experience in the private health sector
- Understanding of private sector funding models
- Experience using Meditech software
