This position is for a full time, permanent Psychologist, Social Worker, Welfare Officer or Counsellor in the growing SWSLHD MERIT Team, based at Liverpool. This is an interesting and exciting position, providing treatment to drug using individuals referred through the Local Court System.

Drug Health Services operates across South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD), providing a range of treatments and interventions at hospitals and community health centres to support individuals, their families and carers who have problems associated with alcohol and other drug use.

What you'll be doing


The primary purpose of this position is to;
 
·         Provide assessments, evidence based interventions, case management and co-ordination of clinical and welfare interventions to SWSLHD MERIT program clients.
·         Provide written and oral reports for clients who remain under Court supervision throughout the program.
·         Support the clinical operations of Court Diversion Programs across the LHD.  
 
Magistrates Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) Program – The MERIT Program is a local court based voluntary diversion program which targets adult defendants with illicit drug use problems who are eligible for release on bail and motivated to undertake drug treatment. The program is three months in duration, reflecting the average local court bail period.
 
This service provides options for clients to improve their health and social functioning while reducing crime and increasing quality of life.
 
The working partnership with the court, clinicians and clients helps magistrates administer sentences which can better reflect rehabilitation prospects for successful MERIT clients.
 
The MERIT office is located at Liverpool and the program operates through a range of courts in South Western Sydney. 
 
  
 

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment, case management and counselling within a drug and alcohol service.
  • Knowledge of the harm reduction approach to drug and alcohol issues and demonstrated experience in the provision of interventions with drug dependent clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team
  • High level of communication skills, including the provision of written court reports within a given timeframe.
  • Demonstrated competence in maintaining clinical records, computer literacy including using Microsoft programs and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to implement quality improvement processes.
  • Tertiary qualification as a Registered Psychologist, Social Worker, Counsellor, or Welfare Officer, which provides eligibility for membership with a professional organisation and/or current registration with AHPRA where applicable.
