For over 50 years, the National Acoustic Laboratories (the research division of Australian Hearing) has conducted and published world-renowned research into hearing, hearing loss prevention, hearing aids, and hearing rehabilitation.

We have a unique opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Research Officer to join our team of scientists, audiologists, and speech pathologists. Together we perform research into outcomes and rehabilitation procedures for children with hearing loss, and contribute to developing, implementing, and validating intervention programs for children with hearing loss. 

Reporting to the Speech Pathology Manager, the successful candidate will manage and participate in research into outcomes and rehabilitation of children and adults with hearing and/or speech and language difficulties, including people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You will be responsible for performing assessments, administering intervention programs, collecting, checking and collating data. You will also contribute to dissemination of research findings.

This is a full-time position, initially for 12 months, with possible extension subject to performance and availability of funding.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A PhD or post-graduate degree in Speech Pathology, Linguistics, or equivalent
  • Eligibility for Certified Practicing professional membership with Speech Pathology Australia is desired but not required
  • Experience with research
  • Excellent people and communication skills
  • Clinical and/or research experience in rehabilitation of children
  • Eligibility for registration to work with children
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with co-researchers
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Problem solving ability
  • Be innovative  
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Computer skills

A current driver’s licence and willing to travel for work-related activities.
