Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a valued and integral member of the Peninsula Health multidisciplinary team demonstrating flexibility in caring for patients and their families across the organisation. The RN works competently within their scope of practice to deliver safe, evidence based person centred care to achieve optimal health outcomes or a dignified death.
Peninsula Health Mental Health Service is committed to the principles of Recovery- Orientated Practice. It aims to provide timely and equitable access to a quality service, and actively supports and encourages consumer and carer participation in all aspects of planning and delivery of mental health services. The catchment area includes the former local government areas of Frankston, Chelsea and the Shires of Mornington, Flinders and Hastings
The Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Associate Nurse Unit Manager/Nurse Unit Manager. In conjunction with the multidisciplinary staff, the Registered Nurse provides recovery orientated care to inpatient consumers of the service and their families/carers.
In order to achieve their position outcomes the Registered Nurse will develop effective partnerships with all staff including medical, nursing and allied health staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document comprehensive nursing care within the area in accordance with best practice and Peninsula Health values.
• Ensure the safety of the public, patients and staff in relation to the provision of a safe environment from both OH&S and Infection Control Perspectives.
• Complete all mandatory training as per hospital policy and participate in organised training and development activities.
• Assist in the orientation of new staff and the supervision and instruction of students.**

Essential Criteria

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
• Completion of a graduate year program
• Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality outcomes for consumers.
• Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with experience.
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Prepares written documentation using clear, concise and grammatically correct language.
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of Recovery Orientated practice in Mental Health Care.
• Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Mental Health Act 2014, the National Standards for Mental Health Services 2010, and the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards including EQuIP and National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
• Able to use basic computer software applications.
• Communicates well with and relates to consumers from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.
