About the Department

The Nutrition Department provides Nutrition & Dietetics services to all areas of SVHM including acute and sub-acute in patients, designated outpatient clinics, St George’s Hospital and the community Residential Care Facilities. The Nutrition Department is a core placement site for the clinical supervision of Nutrition and Dietetic students and has several research interests.


About the Role

The Nutrition Department at St. Vincent’s Hospital is seeking a suitably qualified person for this part time dietitian assistant position. Responsibilities include patient meal ordering and data entry of meal orders within an assigned area of patient care.

The successful applicant would be rostered to cover a regular Saturday morning shift and have availability for additional leave cover shifts during weekdays. Please state your availability in your cover letter. Both week day and weekend availability is essential.


Duties

• Access up to date information on patient location, unit & condition
• Gather and record up to date information on patients diet codes and meal status
• Collect patient meal orders, generate meal tickets and ensure correct meals are ordered as per patients diet code
• Assist patients to make appropriate daily meal choices under the guidance of the nurse caring for the patient and in conjunction with the unit Dietitians, where appropriate
• Assist patients identified by dietitians to select appropriate high protein and energy meals, snacks and supplements from the prescribed hospital menu
• Provide feedback to dietitians regarding patient consumption and tolerance of meals, snacks and supplements
• Gather and record up to date information on patients requiring enteral feeds and supplements under the guidance of the unit dietitian
• Deliver enteral feeds to care centres

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Accredited degree, TAFE diploma or equivalent in a relevant area, such as food science or nutrition, or working towards the completion of such a certificate OR;
• Extensive prior employment experience in similar role with evidence of in-house training
• Well developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to communicate well with patients, their families and other staff at all levels
• Excellent computer skills
• The ability to prioritise and organise a workload within the resources available
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to the values and health care philosophy of SVHA
