At Balance! Edmonton Family Practice we are seeking an experienced, dedicated and highly motivated senior registered nurse, to join our well-established integrated primary health care practice, located in Edmonton to undertake the role of practice nurse team leader.

About the Practice:

A progressive, fully accredited, multidisciplinary family primary health care setting, offering modern facilities with fully equipped acute treatment areas and nurses station.

Our clinical service offers chronic health management including a structured diabetes clinic, women's and children's services, indigenous health and the full range of general practice treatment.

About the role:

The role of practice nurse team leader will be key in the operational management and functioning of the practice, working closely and collaboratively with the practice manager, by reporting and communicating to optimise patient care and ensure key deliverables are achieved.

The practice nurse team leader will also be responsible for effective leadership to our team of practice nurses, by providing education and strong mentoring.

Ideally, this position will be full-time working 38 hours per week, however part-time hours will be considered.  Working hours will be primarily across Monday to Friday and occasionally the incumbent will be required to work on weekends.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Oversee and contribute to all nurse functions of the practice, including treatment room support, chronic disease management, women’s health and occupational health.  
  • Provide assistance to doctors with triage and general patient care including setup for surgical procedures.
  • Be responsible for the management of the patient recall and reminder system.
  • Work closely with the practice manager to ensure adequate and efficient resource allocation at all times.
  • Manage medical supplies in line with budgetary requirements of the practice.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained safely for correct usage.
  • Provide a thorough orientation to new nursing staff and ongoing supervision, mentoring and clinical development of the nursing team.
  • Ensure at all times a high standard of communication, presentation and professional expertise to all patients.
  • Recognise and uphold the rights of all patients and candidates accessing services, including maintaining cultural sensitivity.
  • Working collaboratively with the practice manger to ensure accreditation, appraisals and reports are completed in a timely manner.
  • Comply with Balance! Healthcare policies & procedures, including privacy & confidentiality of work practices.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated senior nursing experience in primary health or emergency care.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary primary health care team.
  • Proven experience in a senior nursing role providing mentorship and leadership to nursing staff.
  • Experience providing primary health care across a range of settings.
  • Previous experience in working with Aboriginal communities and program planning.
  • Proven experience with clinical coordination/case management and risk assessment within the primary health care environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, patients, management and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, patient and customer service skills.
  • Commitment to best practice, ethical behaviour and conduct.
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records and use of MS Office programs.

Other Requirements:

  • Current unrestricted nursing registration with AHPRA.
  • Current Basic Life Support or First Aid Certificate
  • Immunisation endorsed & Pap registered preferred.
  • Working with Children Check/Blue Card.
