Job Description

The Banyule Community Health Wellbeing and Support Team seek to recruit a passionate and suitably qualified withdrawal nurse to join the Medication Support and Recovery Service (MSRS). The Withdrawal Nurse will provide clinical assessment and nursing input for clients who are seeking to reduce/cease their pharmaceutical/medication use. This part-time position will play a valuable role in supporting clients to address their substance use and will work closely with the MSRS counsellor as well as the clients’ GP and wider care team. Banyule Community Health has two main sites, one in the heart of West Heidelberg and the other near the train station of Greensborough. The service offers a wide range of services to the community targeting those most in need.  BCH was awarded Primary Health Service of the Year (2014) and General Practice of the Year (2014).  Banyule Community Health offers a range of Wellbeing and Support programs including; Gamblers Help, Alcohol and Drug/Dual Diagnosis services, Peer Support and Mental Health programs and are co-located at numerous agencies across the North Eastern and North Western suburbs.  

The key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Provision of clinical assessment, brief intervention, withdrawal treatment, referral information and support to clients presenting with concerns regarding pharmaceutical/ medication use
  • Development of withdrawal plans tailored to individual client presentations that consider the clients’ psychosocial circumstances and needs
  • Identifying and supporting the individuals’ GP and wider care team including allied health staff, TAC case managers, psychiatrists etc., to develop and implement individualised treatment plans

The key skills required for this role include

  • High level skills in clinical assessment, brief intervention, withdrawal treatment, referral information and support to clients presenting with concerns regarding pharmaceutical/ medication use
  • Demonstrated provision of relevant, up-to-date and evidence based medical advice and support to clients’ and their treating team
  • Demonstrated experience in providing respectful, non-judgemental and empathetic care to people with substance use concerns and co-occurring conditions
