Inner West Area Mental Health Service - RMHFull Time Fixed Term
About The Roles:
The Neuropsychiatry Unit, based at the John Cade Building of the Royal Melbourne Hospital is a Victorian tertiary assessment service that has provided expert and multidisciplinary diagnostic assessments for patients with complex neuropsychiatric conditions for over three decades. The unit is involved in a range of world-leading research endeavors, innovative educational programs, and training of mental health clinicians to meet the future specialized mental health needs of the community. We are currently recruiting to four training positions commencing in 2019:
Neuropsychiatry In-Patient Registrar
Major components of this role includes participation in triaging of all new referrals to the service and in conjunction with the specialised multi-disciplinary team provide clinical expertise and diagnostic clarification for patients with complex presentations ranging across psychiatry, neurology and general medicine including;
- Organic mental disorders
- Early onset and atypical dementia
- Huntington’s disease
- Epilepsy
- Neurodegenerative conditions
- Neuroimaging in mental illness
- Chronic psychotic disorders
- Movement disorders
Neuroimaging Registrar
This advanced clinical and academic training position focuses on established and evolving neuroimaging modalities as diagnostic, teaching and clinical research tools. In addition to providing core training in the psychiatric applications of neuroimaging in both clinical practice and research, this position involves teaching neuroimaging to a wider range of students, trainees and medical colleagues. The clinical component of this role will include inpatient or outpatient clinical duties in neuropsychiatry.
Younger Onset Dementia (YOD) Registrar
YOD is a core focus of the neuropsychiatry service. The successful applicant will work within the multi-disciplinary team providing regular tertiary review and targeted interventions for younger people with dementia. Collaboration with key stakeholders (Alzheimer’s Australia, Huntington’s Disease Association & Victorian Genetic Health Services) is another key component of this role. This includes participation in clinical consultation services nationally as well as provision of lecture series and workshops for medical under and post-graduate training. This position also provides an ample opportunity to pursue research interests as well exposure to general neuropsychiatric conditions.
Neuropsychiatry Epilepsy Fellow
This position is a joint position, half funded as a Neuropsychiatry trainee and half funded as an Epilepsy fellow in the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, The registrar in this position provides neuropsychiatry consultation to the video telemetry unit and general hospital. This configuration has been previously recognized by the RANZCP as an appropriate full time Advanced Training post (Consultation Liaison or Generalist).
