Switchboard Operator - Night Shift

Switchboard and Reception Team. Patient and Consumer Experience Department

Ongoing position, 24 hours per week (three night shifts)

The Women’s Switchboard provides a twenty-four hour phone service 356 days per year, and is often the first point of contact for our patients and visitors and play a pivotal role in contributing to exceptional customer service.  

Under the leadership of the Switchboard and Reception Team Leader the Night Shift Switchboard Operator will be a friendly and informative point of contact for women, visitors and colleagues.

The role will be required to work rostered shifts, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 23:00-07:00 (24 hours per week). During rostered shifts they will exemplify patient-centred service practices that meet customer service benchmarks and exceed patient expectations, contributing to people’s highly positive experience with the Women’s. 

Your contribution  

Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Undertake Switchboard operational shifts as rostered.
  • Demonstrate respect and compassion with every person they interact with.
  • Conduct themselves with the highest degree of honesty and integrity in every interaction.
  • Respond to Emergency Code notifications in a calm and confident manner, following established policies and procedures.
  • Answer external and internal phone calls, determine the nature of call, provide helpful and accurate information and direct callers to appropriate individuals or departments.
  • Ensure that accurate information and records are maintained in line with hospital policies and guidelines.  

About you

To be successful within this role you will need to have:

  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service with knowledge of, or willingness to embrace patient centred care principles.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in Switchboard operations in a busy and complex environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, and able to read, write, and speak English with fluidity and confidence.
  • The ability to make independent decisions when needed.
