Purpose of Position

Provision of high quality specialist anaesthetic services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients of the hospital.

Staff Specialist or Visiting Medical Officer in Anaesthesia.

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District is looking for experienced Anaesthetists to join the team of multidisciplinary staff. The position will be primarily located at Shoalhaven Hospital but scope of practice will also be offered at Wollongong Hospital and Shellharbour Hospital. Opportunities are available for both Staff Specialist and Visiting Medical Officers.

The applicant must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice whilst providing high quality anaesthetic services to patients.

Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services to around 22,000 patients each year. The hospital has an Intensive Care Unit that incorporates High Dependency and Coronary Care beds and also provides Emergency Department services. As well as these clinical services, the hospital has a busy Obstetric Unit, and also provides services for children under 16 years of age.

The Shoalhaven Hospital is affiliated with the University of Wollongong and supports the training of Nursing, Medical and Allied Health staff. As such there are teaching and research opportunities through the UOW Graduate School of Medicine.

Selection Criteria

1. Registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 2. Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or the ability to obtain fellowship within three months. 3. Ability to participate in an on call roster as required. 4. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality anaesthetic services and continuity of care to the local community, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the clinical environment. 5. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team and provide leadership of a team. 6. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital. 7. Demonstrated experience and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department. 8. Current drivers licence with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
