Where you will be working The Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) – South West Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service (SWBIRS) provides rehabilitation services for people with mild, moderate to severe acquired brain injuries including traumatic brain injuries, stroke, hypoxic brain injuries and other causes of non-progressive brain injury. The service is provided by a multidisciplinary team who have experience in cognitive rehabilitation and community re-entry. The service is based in Albury with a spoke site in Wagga, and comprises of a community outreach rehabilitation services and a 4-bed transitional living unit (TLU) in Lavington. What you will be doing Living Skills Educators (LSE) are members of the South West Brain Injury Rehabilitation multidisciplinary team. LSEs provide assistance and support in the delivery of allied health services to clients of the Transitional Living Unit (TLU), and community based clients under the guidance and supervision of the delegating allied health professional. The TLU (Tarkarri) is a residential facility that accommodates up to four clients. It operates Monday to Friday. The LSE works with the team to assist clients to achieve maximum quality of life after acquired brain injury through facilitation of a therapeutic environment to meet the needs of individuals and their families. Living Skills Educators are rostered morning, evening and night shifts. The evening and night shift staff are required to work in isolation and be responsible for the health and safety of the clients staying at the TLU overnight. Supervision is to be provided by an allied health professional or line manager at all times. Selection Criteria Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance/relevant qualification (Aged Care; Disability). Demonstrated knowledge of physiotherapy, speech pathology and occupational therapy roles. Understanding of the cognitive, physical, psychosocial impact of acquired brain injury on individuals and families.
