ATSICHS Brisbane is a not-for-profit community owned health and human services organisation delivering on the unique health and wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in greater Brisbane and Logan. We are the largest, most comprehensive Aboriginal Medical Health Service in Queensland.

About the Role: 

As a key member of the ATSICHS Brisbane team, the Aboriginal Health Practitioner is expected to personally contribute to the shaping and achievement of ATSICHS vision and goals within their own scope. The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide three (3) Key Functions:

Role Functions

The Aboriginal health practitioner working within the Jajumbora Maternal and Child health model are committed to prevention and early intervention. As a health professional in this part of service delivery for ATSICHS Brisbane you are required to contribute to the overall care and wellbeing for clients to improve their health outcomes. Focusing on children aged 0-2 years the role will work closely with the midwifery group practice and the family wellbeing services. 

Professional Contributions

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide education to ATSICHS clients with regards to their care and promote wellbeing and opportunities for improved health outcomes.

Contribute to the Development of a Flourishing Team

Support fellow staff in a team environment to build collegiality and a sense of belongingness within the team and ATSICHS family. Staff will actively participate in team activities and contribute to a flourishing workplace culture that promotes the ethos and values of ATSICHS Brisbane as a long standing Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

About You: 

Essential:

  • Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Clinical Practice) or higher.

  • Previous demonstrable experience in relevant Aboriginal Health Worker field.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet targets and performance outcomes.

  • Ability to support a continuous improvement model for achieving outcomes.

  • Decisive listening, influencing and persuasive skills.

  • Medicare Provider Number as a Aboriginal health Practitioner (non-restricted).

  • Full un-restricted AHPRA Registration.

  • Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Minimum two (2) years experience in a Primary Health setting.

  • Previous experience of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.

  • Previous experience in a multidisciplinary health team.

  • Previous experience in chronic disease management.

  • In accordance with ATSICHS performance review timetable, you and your manager will review your ‘on the job performance’ annually and at other set times during the year. This will be completed in relation to your position description and the delivery of your KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators). The responsibilities, duties and KPI’s for your roles are defined under ATSICHS three (3) Key Functionsas listed below:
