We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse specialising in sexual health to fill a full time position in Canberra.

What will you do?

This role is primarily responsible for the delivery of clinical care to ADF Personnel, providing health support to training activities/incidents within the military area and facility. The Sexual Health Nurse delivers comprehensive sexual and reproductive health nursing care including assessment, screening and treatment, in addition to sexual transmissible infections, blood borne viruses, contraceptive advice, pap tests, and ongoing care for patients with chronic sexual health issues.  Other responsibilities include:

• Demonstrate compliance with AHPRA codes, guidelines and statements
• Compliance with National infection control standards and procedures
• Develop and maintain patient care plans and clinical records
• Liaise with multidisciplinary team members
• Perform routine HIV counselling and testing, referring clients to the consultant as necessary
• Provide clients with comprehensive advice and counselling regarding all aspects of sexual health without bias to enable Entitled Personnel to make informed choices regarding their sexual and reproductive health
• Perform sexual health examinations, screening tests and contract tracing
• Coordinate and maintain recall and follow up of patients in consultation with the Medical Officer

What do you need to apply?

Looking after the health of our Defence Force and proactively managing health issues is paramount! In order to do so, we require our applicants to:

• Be Australian Citizens (to obtain a Baseline Security clearance, which are only granted to Australian Citizens)

• Be a Registered Nurse division 1, holding a current unconditional registration with APHRA

• Demonstrate a minimum of two (2) full-time years (or part-time equivalent, approximately 3,900 hours) post registration experience in a sexual and reproductive health setting

• Current Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health for Nursing or equivalent

• Be an authorised PAP Smear Provider, PSP Credential and Certification of the Credentialed Course for the appropriate State/Territory
