Westmead Hospital, Tissue Pathology & Diagnostic Oncology is one of the largest and busiest public Tissue Pathology services in NSW. The department provides specialised front line diagnostic and review services to patients of Western Sydney Local Health District, Sydney, regional NSW and overseas.

We operate more than 60 laboratories and around 200 collection centres across NSW and
conduct over 60 million tests per annum. Our network of pathologists are supported by
scientists, technicians and support staff who quickly and accurately assess samples so clinical teams can make the best possible treatment decisions for patients. Our Forensic &
Analytical Science Service provides independent, objective analysis to the NSW criminal
and coronial justice systems.

What you'll be doing

The Office Manager is responsible for the management and performance of the office and supervision of administrative staff in the key areas of tissue pathology transcription, customer service, diagnostic material handling for meeting preparation and referral management. The role is demanding and requires a skilled communicator with strong leadership, documentation and prioritisation skills. 

An eligibility list will be created for future permanent full time / part time, temporary and casual vacancies.

This position is a permanent position. To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
Please note: A person who is not an Australian citizen or a permanent resident is only eligible for temporary employment for a period not longer than the duration of their current visa or a period not shorter than the duration of the advertised position.

  1. Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and perform a wide range of administrative tasks and work flow within allocated resources.
  2. Demonstrated ability to determine priorities for others, allocate tasks, coach and mentor work performance of staff to achieve work objectives.
  3. Demonstrated initiative in acting on gaps or identified opportunities to address service delivery issues quickly and effectively.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to providing a quality service and quality improvement initiatives in workplace practices and procedures.
  5. Demonstrated capability to use a wide range of computer hardware, Microsoft software applications and electronic systems to complete work activities.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including strong written and verbal English and be capable of professionally liaising and working with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation using different modes of communication in a technical and business context.
  7. Demonstrable skills and experience at a senior administrative level in a Tissue Pathology service provision (including but not limited to laboratory information systems, pathology transcription, result enquiries, customer service, trouble shooting and request management).
  8. Demonstrable working knowledge and application of Pathology Accreditation and NPAAC requirements pertaining to Tissue Pathology administration procedures.
