About the Role

Western Health has a number of HMO2 (PGY2) general positions suitable for those applicants who are currently undertaking their Internship and will have obtained their General Registration with AHPRA in January 2019.  

Western Health offer a supported environment where Senior Medical Staff make an effort to know you personally and out HMO education program comprises weekly education session, incorporating simulation workshops and case based education sessions.

  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology

  • Paediatrics (Mildura)
  • Paediatrics (Djerriwarrh Health Service / Melton)
  • Psychiatry (Werribee)
  • Psychiatry (Sunshine)
  • Sub-Acute GEM / Rehabilitation
  • Respiratory
  • Nephrology
  • Orthogeriatrics
  • Secure Geriatric Evaluation and Management
  • Night Duty / Relieving

Please note: all HMOs will be assigned an emergency rotation during the year, along with a night duty / relieving term during the year. Every effort will be made to provide rotations of your choice – taking into consideration such things as current training requirements, previous experience and demands of particular rotations. However this is not a guarantee as this is dependent on the group of successful applicants and the final rotation selection.

Applications must be made to both the PMCV and Western Health.

The eligibility standards to apply are in line with the HMO Matching Service (via the PMCV) and are for any individual that falls in the categories below; provided they are eligible for General Medical Registration in Australia:

  • Australian Trained (Permanent Resident) Graduate of a Victorian Medical Faculty
  • Australian Trained (Permanent Resident) Graduate of an Interstate Medical Faculty
  • Temporary Resident Medical Graduate of a Victorian Medical Faculty
  • Temporary Resident Medical Graduate of an Interstate Medical Faculty
  • Australian Medical Council Graduate (who has obtained Permanent Residency and is completing the requirements for (or currently holds) General Medical Registration in Australia)
  • New Zealand Medical Graduates (Permanent Resident or International full-fee student)
  • International Medical Graduate (Australian Permanent Resident) who will complete 12 months of workplace based assessment at an Australian hospital (Competent Authority Pathway)

Important information for International Medical Graduates (IMG) - if you do not have General Medical Registration in Australia or you are not currently completing the requirements of an intern year in Australia then you are NOT ELIGIBLE for these vacancies at this time. To be eligible to apply as an IMG, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Successfully completed both the Australian Medical Council MCQ and the Clinical examination or have advanced standing towards the AMC Certificate under the Component Authority pathway (CA Pathway)
  • Hold Australian permanent residency or citizenship
  • Hold General (unconditional) Medical Registration with the Australian Medical Board, or currently completing board requirements which will grant you General (unconditional) Medical Registration by the beginning of February 2019
