A Mental Health Nurse is a registered nurse who holds a recognised specialist qualification in mental health (nursing).  Taking a holistic approach, guided by evidence, the Mental Health Nurse works in collaboration with people who have mental health issues, their family and community, towards recovery as defined by the individual (ACMHN, 2010, p. 5).

The Richmond Fellowship Tasmania Mental Health Nurse provide services and activities related to the Mental Health Nurse Access Program (MHNAP).  The purpose of the program is to provide clinical care and treatment services to adults with complex and severe mental illness within the community.

  • Provide services to adults with complex and severe mental illness.  Services may include:  care/support coordination, medication management and support, recovery based interventions and referrals to other services and programs.
  • Work closely with primary care providers to identify and refer eligible people.
  • Work within the processes and guidelines provided by RFT to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the service (and program).
  • Actively manage case load to increase access and throughput to the program
  • Maintain appropriate and up to date service records and documentation.
  • Contribute to data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Work in collaboration with the broader RFT Clinical Services Team and other stakeholders as required.
