About the business

Keepmoving was founded in 2006 with the focus of improving access to innovation in assistive technology products and services for all Territorians. Keep Moving is able to deliver services and innovative products to all Territorians, including Darwin, Alice Springs and remote.

 

The clinical team at Keep moving has an established Assistive Technology clinic run by experienced therapists and technicians to support community therapists and independent clients in the process of selecting, prescribing, and using assistive technology.  It is currently managed by an Occupational Therapist.

 

The clinical team provide Assistive technology assessment, reports and prescription of equipment for adult and paediatric clients, as well as supporting and advising therapists with trials, assessments, prescription and set up of equipment. 

 

The experienced team have extensive knowledge and experience across the spectrum of Assistive technology including:

  • Aids for daily living 
  • Seating and positioning accessories  
  • Wheelchair and seating
  • Bathing and showering
  • Mobility and gait
  • Standing and transfers
  • Environmental control systems
  • Home modifications
  • Exploration of accessing environmental control systems and communication devices e.g. switch/ device mounting

 

Our well resourced facility offers clinic space, lifting and transfer equipment, an examination plinth, wheelchair access including toilets and easy car parking.

 

We also offer the convenience of off site assessment in home environments, allowing for the provision of recommendations for modifications to living environments that may be required, such as access ramps and bathroom modifications.

 

We are accredited Northern Territory providers for the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) and DVA (Department of Veterans Affairs.)

About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to be situated in our Darwin Office in the Northern Territory.

This newly created role will encompass our new Assistive Technology on Community (AT on Community) program which is supported by NDIS funding.

The role will involve joining the clinical team in Darwin and also working in remote NT, including spending periods of time away from urban Darwin.   The role will involve a large amount of travel and periods away from Darwin (maximum 5 days at any one time). 

AT on community will involve providing services to promote early diagnosis and assessment of children and adults with mobility problems.

In this role the duties will include:

  • Supporting the AT on community project manager in the development and rolling out of the project.
  • Perform AT assessments with clients including NDIS participants throughout the NT including seating clinics, home modifications, vehicle modifications, along with the full range of mobility equipment including wheelchairs, seating systems and aids for daily living.
  • Provide support to private sector OTs performing AT assessments in the NT.
  • Providing services and education in Darwin, Alice Springs, and travel to the other major centres including Katherine, Gove and Tennant Creek and to the remote communities of the NT will be part of the job.
  • Working closely with clients, families and stakeholders of the organisation.
  • Commitment to client outcomes and evidence based practice.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment.

Skills and experience

 

  •  Bachelor / postgraduate degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and culture, including issues effecting communities.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the assessment and prescription of assistive technology throughout the life span.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of PC based software such as Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Highly developed organisational skills.
  • Northern Territory Driving licence (or ability to obtain)
  • Working with Children Clearance NT - Ochre Card (or ability to obtain)
  • National Police Clearance
  • First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain)
