Where you'll be working: The South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) Mental Health Service provides quality mental health care to residents across south western Sydney. Our services provide assessment and treatment for a range of mental health needs and disorders and our priorities include early intervention and promoting mental health in our community. All SWSLHD Mental Health Service staff are committed to patient safety and quality care. The service maintains current accreditation with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards against its EQuIPNational program and survey against the National Standards for Mental Health Services. What you'll be doing The position involves working collaboratively with Mental Health teams to support the implementation and delivery of Mental Health services .The Carer Peer support Worker uses their lived experience of caring, as well as peer worker expertise to address service gaps, provide opportunity for education and training of clinical staff and provide representative input into activities and projects to advocate for, and promote change. The Carer Peer support role provides recovery orientated, evidence based peer support interventions directed towards the family and/or carers of mental health consumers. This position also supports clinical staff in the provision of recovery orientated and consumer driven clinical practice by providing consultation in relation to the experience of caring for an individual living with a mental health disorder. The carer, peer support worker is also responsible for undertaking designated administrative tasks necessary to support service delivery. Selection Criteria Personal experience of caring for someone with a mental illness as well as a willingness to share this experience as part of your role Demonstrated knowledge of issues and concerns relating to a caring role Experience in developing and running educational groups Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Evidence of knowledge and commitment to the application of quality improvement and evidence based practice Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy in a range of programs Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional education Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to undertake Need more information?
