The Health and Wellness team promotes positive wellbeing across the University community providing a range of services to support physical and psychological wellbeing. 

We are currently seeking a proactive advocate of positive psychological health and wellness to join our team to provide evidence-based mental health and psychological services.

What you’ll do

Reporting to the Manager (Wellness), you will be actively involved in the development and provision of proactive psychological wellness initiatives and counselling with core priorities of enhancing the student experience and facilitating student progress in tertiary study.

You will also apply your considerable expertise to:

  • Develop and implement a range of psychoeducational and experiential programs that aim to proactively enhance the student experience by strengthening resilience and self-efficacy;
  • Deliver a brief therapy model of counselling and wellbeing services to students from diverse backgrounds to benefit their progression in tertiary study;
  • Contribute to the USQ Trauma Response and Recovery Team in the instance of a critical event or highly distressed staff or students;
  • Contribute to students' wellbeing and welfare in the context of a multidisciplinary case management approach, monitoring and evaluating the needs of students;
  • Actively seek and drive applied research, evaluation and relevant projects, keenly contributing to scholarly publications to further higher education understandings and learnings regarding the student experience and student wellbeing.
  • Provide strategic advice to management in relation to trends and issues relevant to the role.
It is expected that you will also diligently maintain the required skills and knowledge to respond to complex presentations such as domestic violence, sexual assault and suicidal risk.

What will help you succeed?

Your success in this challenging, but rewarding role will rely on the high value you place on psychological health and wellness and your appreciation of the issues related to students transitioning through tertiary education.

Additionally you will have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the fields of Clinical/Educational Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling, with registration/accreditation with a relevant industry body;
  • Extensive experience in providing psychological health services including conducting triage, counselling, psychoeducational programs, assessment and appropriate interventions;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, respect for cultural diversity and a genuine desire to support adults along their varied educational pathways to student success;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively liaise with, and provide information and advice to, internal and external clients, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent time management skills to organise and manage a wide variety of tasks and projects to meet conflicting priorities and deadlines whilst achieving high quality outcomes; and
  • A naturally collaborative nature which will see you thrive in a team environment interacting positively, cooperatively and equitably with colleagues, sharing best practice.
Eligibility for a Blue Card (Working with Children) and the ability to maintain this card is an essential requirement of this position.

Salary: Total remuneration range $108,589 to $124,692 pa (includes salary range of $91,755 to $105,362 pa, employer super contributions of 17% and annual leave loading)
