The Salvation Army Sunrise Centre, Drug and Alcohol Services – Top End provides a structured 12 week residential and day program. The program delivers treatment via the Community Integration Model which utilises  Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques and Case Management in order to deliver a recovery oriented service with a stepped care framework.   

Our rehabilitation and Withdrawal Services are open to both men and women over the age of 18 years wishing to address their substance misuse issues. The centre offers separate living facilities for men and women within the complex, allowing for each client to have their own bedroom and ensuite.

The primary purposes of this position are to provide evidence based specialist psychological 1:1 services to residential clients presenting with substance use disorders; group based therapeutic interventions and secondary consultation to other clinical staff.  

The program model demands an emphasis on recovery orientation, enabling each client to become connected with and integrated within their community. This will be achieved via both individual and group interventions in addition to providing training and secondary consultation to other team members.

Expected outcomes of this role are -

  • Extensive knowledge of, and proven effective application of, evidence based and best practice clinical interventions used in the drug and alcohol field.
  • Demonstrated skills in psychosocial and psychometric assessment and interpretation of results to help guide treatment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based psychological, behavioral management and counseling and group work interventions for adults with co-morbid mental health and substance abuse problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership, consultation, training, research and clinical supervision to other health service professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a multidisciplinary Drug and Alcohol/Mental Health context including Drug and Alcohol clinical research/service evaluation.
  • Effective communication and liaison skills for working with multidisciplinary staff with regards to service planning, treatment planning, clinical interventions and discharge process.

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • Full registration and registered in accordance with the Psychologists Act 2001 with degree or some other recognized clinical area in psychology that the employer deems relevant to the functions of the position or working towards same.
  • High level experience working in cross cultural environments including an understanding of the impacts of program and policy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
