Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) delivers professional correctional services and programs to reduce the risk of re-offending and enhance public safety. It serves a key function of the NSW Justice sector by providing effective, safe and humane management of offenders both in custody and in the community CSNSW also works in partnership with other government and community agencies to ensure that offenders and their families are supported.

 
About the role
 

Corrective Services NSW Psychology Services is responsible for conducting assessments and providing interventions that address the risks, needs and responsivity issues to reduce the risk of re-offending by adult offenders in correctional centres and under community supervision.

 

Psychologists work as part of a team under the supervision and management of a Senior Psychologist and Chief Psychologist. Psychologists work as part of a broader multidisciplinary team, and may provide services across locations and centres as the needs of the service are identified. Corrective Services provides training for specialised assessments in sexual and violent offending and violent extremism.

 
 
Essential Requirements
  • Minimum four year accredited qualification in psychology with current provisional or full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Demonstrated expertise in assessment and treatment in correctional psychology including mental health issues, cognitive impairment, and with respect to behaviour management.
  • Demonstrated level of knowledge and understanding of contemporary correctional concepts, principles and practices relevant to psychology assessment and treatments
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability with regards to criminogenic risk assessments, including risks related to sex and violent offending and associated interventions
  • Demonstrated advisory, consultation, and report writing skills
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the psychologist's ethical and legal obligations and professional accountability particularly the Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Current NSW driver’s licence with ability and willingness to travel throughout NSW.   
 
About you
 

We are currently seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals to join our Risk Management Programs team with Psychologist/Specialist Psychologist to provide assessment and intervention services to high risk/ needs offenders.

 

The focus capabilities for the role are the capabilities in which occupants must demonstrate immediate Competence and can be found on the Role Description.

 

For appointment as a Specialist Psychologist you must satisfy the additional selection criteria and qualifications, click here for additional specialist psychologist criteria (please ensure you tick the box for 'specialist' and address these criteria in your written application). Applicants may be considered for appointment at the classification/level of Specialist Psychologist set out in the Crown Employees (Psychologists) Award, provided they meet the relevant criteria.  This is unrelated to recognition as a specialist by AHPRA.  In line with the National Laws governing the registration of health professionals in Australia, a psychologist can only use the term specialist in their job title if they are on the specialist register, even if he/she is paid as a specialist under the Award referred to above.

 

In accordance with the Government Employment Sector (GSE) Act 2013, all current and new employees will be employed at a classification level and assigned to a role rather than appointed to a position.  Employees may be re-assigned to other roles at the same classification over time, in line with organisation priorities and/or personal development plans.

 

Part of the assessment process may include additional online capability testing, skills testing or work samples in accordance with the new Government Sector Employment Act 2013.
