About Us
The System Planning (SPB) Branch is responsible for the health service planning functions within SPPD. The Branch assesses statewide health service requirements, service supply, service capacity, develops statewide plans and informs investment priorities for service development and infrastructure initiatives as well as supporting local health service planning. In addition, the Branch undertakes time limited projects on specific areas that contribute to development of health service.

The Health Service Research Analysis and Modelling (HSRAM) Unit within SPB are responsible for:

  • Central coordination and oversight of planning guidelines and projection methodologies including providing health service need forecasts to inform Health care commissioning
  • Development of the projections of future health service activity
  • Review and provision of advice to other divisions and Hospital and Health Services on their use of data in local plans
  • Preparing and disseminating regular reviews of current research pertinent to the policy and planning functions.


The role:  
The Manager, Projection Methodologies will lead and manage the development of service planning guidelines and projection methodologies, health service priority setting, and manage the development and presentation of research, analysis, options and recommendations for service planning activities based on international, national and state resources.  Specifically, this role will analyse research of clinical evidence and current and future health care needs to inform planning projects, and undertake analysis of data and information to identify future priorities and issues for Queensland Health that informs the development and review of health care purchasing and service planning.  The role will provide advice on complex technical issues relevant to health research and priority health areas that informs service planning to Department of Health Divisions, Hospital and Health Services, and other stakeholders, and manage consultation processes with internal, external and Government stakeholders in the development of service planning guidelines and health service priority setting.  This role is responsible for managing staff and resources, and preparing high level briefing documents, submissions, correspondence and reports.

The successful person:
The successful candidate will have previous experience in managing health service planning projects in a large and complex service delivery organisation.  You will demonstrate a good understanding of health service planning processes and high-level ability in utilising frameworks and tools, and data collection and usage in managing the development of service plans.  You will be required to demonstrate an ability to critically analyse numerical data, clinical evidence and health service provision/planning information and apply to health service provision and planning in the Queensland context to identify future priorities and issues to inform health service planning.  Strong knowledge of health priority areas, the health needs of key population groups, and key health system issues is required.  You will demonstrate high level written communication skills including the ability to compile reports, write submissions, discussion papers, advice notes, and government correspondence.  Additionally, you will have a proven track record in building and maintaining effective professional and consultative relationships with senior stakeholders and demonstrated ability to manage challenges with integrity, tact and diplomacy.
