Introducing Rivergum

The Rivergum Residential Treatment Centre (Rivergum) is a new facility that will deliver short-term, intensive treatment and interventions for up to 20 offenders on supervision orders. It is a secure, therapeutic environment and forms part of Victoria's Post Sentence Detention and Supervision Scheme – a civil, non-punitive scheme which has been in operation since 2005. Offenders subject to a supervision order are not undergoing a sentence and are not in custody.

Located near the rural town of Ararat, Rivergum will have a strong focus on building collaborative relationships that both motivate and hold residents accountable for their actions. Residents will be supported in continuing their rehabilitation through the delivery of intensive treatment and interventions, provided by a multi-disciplinary team made up of clinicians, case workers, case managers, activities coordinators and more.

The facility is operated by the Department of Justice and Regulation, which is one arm of the Victorian State Government, a recognised top employer of choice nationally. All of our staff work to the vision of a safe, just, innovative and thriving Victoria.

About the role

The Sex Offender Assessment and Treatment Services (SOATS) will be responsible for providing specialised assessment and therapeutic interventions to sexual and violent offenders at Rivergum.

Senior clinicians will be key players in the small, multidisciplinary clinical team responsible for providing a holistic range of interventions. This includes offence-specific and offence-related group and individual-based interventions. This position offers the opportunity to work with high risk offenders in a residential setting with a strong therapeutic focus.

What you will do

As a senior clinician at Rivergum, you will:

  • Provide leadership and authoritative clinical advice to Corrections Victoria, especially to principal practitioners, specialist case managers, and the post sentence branch
  • Deliver offence-specific interventions for residents at Rivergum (inclusive of drug and alcohol criminogenic interventions).
  • Prepare comprehensive reports including the provision of authoritative clinical advice to the courts.
  • Provide training on relevant offender issues to Corrections Victoria and external agencies, as required.

Additionally, you should have:

  • a desire to lead, mentor and develop staff to meet their full potential.
  • experience in providing clinical individual and group supervision to clinicians, psychologists or social workers.
  • at least two years experience in delivering group-based treatment or intervention
  • expertise in applying best practice principles of therapeutic intervention that will be applied to this complex offender group.
