This newly created permanent position based at The Children?s Hospital at Westmead supports the expanding network of NSW Health services for children and young people 10-17yo who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours. The SCHN through a clinical advisory service supports NSW Health?s 6 New Street services with training , supervision and strategic advice.


The successful applicant will have significant clinical experience working with children and their families/carers in relation to trauma including engaging in harmful sexual behaviour.


The position requires regular travel to regional locations and includes consultation to NSW Health?s partner agencies as well across NSW Health services which intersect with this client group, most commonly violence and neglect services, child and adolescent mental health and child and family or adolescent services.

What you'll be doing
Associate Clinical Advisor provides high level and specialist support to the Clinical Advisor New Street Services both in relation to the service priorities and program delivery of New Street Services across NSW Health and strategic advice to the NSW Ministry of Health in relation to health services for safety of children, primarily safety from domestic violence and sexual safety. Associate Clinical Advisor New Street Services has oversight of the development of the New Street Services' specialist clinical forensic training and orientation of clinicians and leads project management of the production of new curriculum resources. The Associate Clinical Advisor has oversight of the cloud based resources for all New Street Services. Establish systems to support and monitor the quality and fidelity to treatment model of New Street Services

Specialist advice and support to the Clinical Advisor in the clinical support of the services, on a day to day basis and during absences such as leave.

Provides high level strategic advice regarding sexual offending and domestic violence through verbal and written reports including strategic plans, briefing documents, funding applications, academic and practice material, research applications.

Supports the Clinical Advisor in the clinical support (Training, Supervision and Consultation) of a staff of approximately 30 New Street Services' clinicians including Service Clinical Coordinators state-wide (HSM 3) and Senior Clinicians (HSHP5 or Senior Clinical Psychologist), Aboriginal Clinical workforce, at services across 5 locations in 4 Local Health Districts and a librarian (Librarian Level2) at CHW.

Develops resources for clinicians and families and research projects related to services for children who have sexually harmed other children. Ensuring fidelity to the New Street clinical model across all service sites.

Associate Clinical Advisor has oversight of the specialist clinical forensic orientation program of New Street Clinicians. Attends and chairs high level meetings with and on behalf of the Clinical Advisor to represent the organisation at a strategic level.

Provides strategic advice to Local Health Districts, Ministry of Health, related NSW government and non-government entities regarding the sexual safety of children.


  1. Demonstrated expertise in child protection policy and procedure as it relates to domestic violence and sexual abuse, understanding of the legislative context for child protection including as this relates to children engaging in harmful sexual behaviours and intent of the reforms arising from various commissions of enquiry related to harmful sexual behaviour of children and how this relates to NSW Health policy and service provision.
  2. Extensive clinical experience working with adults and children who engage in harmful sexual behaviour and experience providing therapeutic intervention to adolescents. Thorough understanding of the current research literature, evidence base and contemporary approaches to prevention and response to sexual abuse and domestic violence including to those who have perpetrated sexual abuse.
  3. Experience in family therapy, multi-systemic and strategic interventions in relation to children?s behaviour.
  4. Experience and high level of proficiency in providing clinical supervision, consultation and delivering training.
  5. Experience working with Aboriginal children, families and communities and demonstrated ability to work in culturally safe ways particularly in relation to Aboriginal workforce, children, families.
  6. Experience in providing high level strategic advice to health services, related entities and/or government regarding the safety of children, operation of therapeutic services demonstrating specialist knowledge of subject content and delivering solutions, strategic plans and options for health services.
  7. Eligible for clinical or supervisory level accreditation with the Child Sex Offender Counsellor Accreditation Scheme, CSOCAS (NSW Office of the Children?s Guardian) and relevant tertiary qualification and practice credentials in Psychology or Social Work.
  8. Experience and commitment to an ethical approach in planning, management and leadership of health services or therapeutic teams and providing specialist clinical supervision and training.
