SCHN is seeking a motivated Clinical Nurse Educator to provide support and education to staff in Variety Ward at the Children’s Hospital Westmead.
Variety Ward is a 17 bed acute Oncology/Isolation Ward that cares for a mixture of patients including a variety of specialties for patients requiring isolation. Variety Ward cares for patients admitted for:
- General medical and subspecialty patients requiring isolation
- Infectious oncology and BMT patients (although also non-infectious)
- Administration of complex chemotherapy regimens, or combinations of chemotherapy and radiotherapy;
- Antimicrobial and other supportive therapy for children who are immunosuppressed;
- Stem cell transplantation
- Pain and palliative care
The CNE will be responsible for the delivery and evaluation of clinical nursing education. The CNE will work in collaboration with the Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) and Nurse Educator (NE) and wider hospital team to develop and implement clinical education relevant to specialities and basic nursing competencies. In addition the successful applicant will participate in specific education projects, provide education in-services and will be responsible for facilitating / coordinating nursing orientation to the department. Services provided by the unit include management of patients receiving chemotherapy, radiation, palliative care and ambulatory care.
This position is a Temporary Part Time 6 Month Contract
What you'll be doing
The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) will be responsible for the delivery and evaluation of clinical nursing education. The CNE will work in collaboration with the Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) and Nurse Educator (NE) and wider hospital team to develop and implement clinical education relevant to specialities and basic nursing competencies.
The CNE will work collaboratively to support clinical education to others outside the ward/ unit when required.
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Relevant clinical or education post registration qualifications or such education and clinical experience deemed appropriate by the employer
- Demonstrated effective clinical teaching skills
- Demonstrated commitment to clinical and professional development
- Demonstrated advanced written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and understanding of NSQHS Standards relating to education
- Knowledge of adult learning principles
