About the role

The work of the West Moreton AODS team is organised around the provision of primary health services to residents of the HHS with alcohol and/or other drugs use issues; or at risk issues arising through exposure to high risk behaviours and specific social determinants of health. All services provided are ambulatory and include opioid replacement therapy and counselling services. The standards and strategic direction of the work of this team is significantly set by the Alcohol and other Drug Treatment Strategy Unit, Mental Health Alcohol & Other Drugs Directorate, Division of the Chief Health Officer. Responsibility for implementation of policy rests with the HHS.

The Clinical Nurse provides advanced clinical care and support specific to alcohol and other drugs within a community health setting. The position works collaboratively within the unit and with other members of the health care team including clients/carers, other health professionals, general practitioners and other agencies (including non-Government agencies).

The Clinical Nurse role requires a broad depth of professional nursing and a sound specific knowledge base in relation to evidence based care specific to addiction, alcohol and other drugs.

This role is designated as ‘Vaccination Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role'. You must be able to provide evidence that you either:

  •  have been vaccinated against the VPD's listed in the role description; or
  • you are not susceptible to the VPD's listed in the role description.
