About Department
The Department of Rheumatology provides a comprehensive clinical Rheumatology service to the Hospital. It is one of the leading centres for the management of Scleroderma in Australia and has developed a National Scleroderma Research Program.
About the Role
The Scleroderma and pulmonary hypertension nurse will work with in the department of Rheumatology and with other members of the Cardiology and Respiratory department to co-ordinate services for patients with Scleroderma and pulmonary hypertension. A Major part of the role is patient liaison, education and the coordination and management of Scleroderma and Pulmonary hypertension clinical trials within the department.
The role involves supervision and education of patients with pulmonary hypertension, monitoring of their condition and therapy. The nurse will also provide support for Scleroderma patients and education and advice about management of the condition with particular emphasis on digital ulcer care.
Duties
- Assist in the running of Scleroderma and PAH Clinical Trials
- Educate patients on administration and side effect management of treatment
- Facilitate patient treatment visits
- Provide telephone support for Scleroderma patients
- Provide wound care advice for patients with digital ulcers and Liaise with local GP and local nurses in regard to management of digital ulcers
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Degree in general Nursing
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Advanced clinical nursing skills
- Must be competent in Venepuncture
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, particularly to respond professionally
