Join our Workplace Mental Health Research Team

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Officer to join our expanding research team.  The Workplace Mental Health Research team is a team of 10 researchers who are undertaking a variety of studies investigating the links between mental health and the workplace.  We are particularly interested in high risk workforces and are currently conducting a number of research projects involving NSW first responders and medical doctors. The Research Officer would provide research support to the Workplace Mental Health Program within the Black Dog Institute. Specifically, this role would focus on two separate projects involving the development and evaluation of 1) a smartphone app to support the mental health of junior doctors, and 2) an online training program for senior doctors to promote the mental health of junior doctors reporting to them.  

Your role:

  • Provide a significant level of research support including contribution to research design, preparation of research protocols, undertaking literature searches, preparation and maintenance of ethics applications and reports, collection and storage of research data.
  • Assist with quantitative and qualitative analyses and interpretation using multiple tools and methodologies.
  • Design and conduct focus groups with doctors and medical staff.
  • Assist in developing new clinical and educational content for a variety of e-Mental Health programs.
  • Develop relationships and regularly liaise with stakeholders including senior medical staff, health departments, and local health districts, to coordinate study progress, identify issues that arise, and ensure adherence to the study protocol.
  • Prepare and maintain governance and research documentation across study sites.
  • Assist with participant recruitment and follow-up, in accordance with the study protocol.
  • Assist with the product testing of e-Mental Health programs, and liaise with IT and User Experience Teams as necessary.
  • Assist with the organisation and running of team meetings/teleconferences.
  • Assist in preparing reports, academic publications and the dissemination of research findings.
  • Manage administrative and research tasks associated with the project including milestone tracking and expense management where appropriate.
  • Travelling within Sydney area as projects require.
  • Assist with research or administrative support of the Workplace Mental Health Research team as required.

Essential criteria:

  • An honours degree in psychology, public health or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in health research, including preparing ethics applications, and designing and implementing quantitative and/or qualitative research projects.
  • Previous experience in collecting, analysing and interpreting research data.
  • Well-developed written skills with demonstrated experience in writing academic papers for publication.
  • Strong oral communication skills with experience delivering presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong ability to professionally liaise and build collaborative relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders including senior medical staff.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both within a team and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computing skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of EEO principles and OH&S responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant OH&S training.
