A newly commissioned service has been established to improve the psychological well being and decrease the severity of trauma symptoms of children and young people in care. This new approach to child protection and well being in NSW is bringing together government agencies, non government agencies and the community to deliver a targeted response which wraps services and support packages around vulnerable children and families. 

As part of these reforms we are seeking to engage with a qualified and experienced Mental Health Clinician to provide services to decrease trauma symptoms, improve Psychological well-being and improve behavioural and emotional functioning for a targeted cohort of children in Out of Home Care.

This role is open to Psychologists, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists.

There is also opportunity to further develop skills and expertise through ongoing clinical training and supervision. 

Applicants with demonstrated experience in any or all of the following treatment modalities are strongly encouraged to apply: Trauma Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and/or Tuning into Kids/Tuning into Teens. 

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Provide professional supports to children and young people to improve their quality of life and participation in the community. 
  • Provide clinical management and treatment of children and young people in the program under your care.
  • Provision of specialist mental health assessment and treatment to children and young people with complex presentations and psycho social needs reflecting a history of developmental trauma
  • Working across a diverse range of agencies and non-government providers of Out of Home Care.
  • Working with children and young people who present with complex and chronic mental health, trauma and attachment issues related to their history of abuse and neglect.
  • Ensure a high standard of clinical record documentation is maintained. This includes the completion of the clinical records (including medication charts / orders) to reflect clinical decisions and the keeping of appropriate databases up-to-date.
  • Ensure compliance with the standards contained within the Australian Council on Health Care Standards Guidelines for Accreditation.
Key Requirements:
  • Possess demonstrated knowledge, skills and substantial experience in child and adolescent development and mental health related work, and the ability to integrate evidence based practice to formulate and implement diverse and multi-systemic therapeutic interventions. 
  • Work effectively in a team, and have a demonstrated understanding of the impact of social and cultural factors on family functioning, and the ability to work with Aboriginal and other culturally diverse communities in culturally competent ways. 
  • Advanced level of verbal/written communication skills, analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to apply these skills to contribute to the ongoing evaluation, monitoring and enhancement of service delivery. 
Please note: Training will be provided in above mentioned interventions 

Essential Criteria: 
  • Psychologists must be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia; 
  • Occupational Therapists must hold qualifications recognised for registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia. 
  • Occupational Therapists from 1 July 2012, must hold general registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia 
  • Social Workers must hold as a minimum a bachelor degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer. 
  • Current drivers Licence and be willing to travel for work
