What you'll be doing A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse educated and authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role. The NP role includes the assessment and management of patients using nursing knowledge and skills and may include but is not limited to initiation of diagnostic investigations, prescribing of medications and direct referral of patients to other health care professionals. The NP role is grounded in the nursing profession's values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that complements other health care providers. The Nurse Practitioner is educated and endorsed to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role. The NP role includes assessment and management using nursing knowledge and skills. The role may include, but is not limited to, the direct referral of patients to other health care professionals, prescribing medications and initiating and interpreting diagnostic investigations. To be Considered For This Role You Must Have The Following Current nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Holds approved postgraduate qualifications relevant to the specialty or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate. Selection Criteria Authorised to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the NSW Nurses & Midwifery Registration Board or working towards such a qualification. If transitional, 7 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 5 years full time equivalent clinical experience in the specialty of the Nurse Practitioner role. Demonstrated ability to articulate sound reasoning behind clinical, diagnostic and prescribing decisions that are informed by evidence based practice and made within a nursing context Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical and reflective thinking, complex reasoning and analysis to guide assessments, clinical judgements and decisions whilst managing complete episodes of patient care. Demonstrated ability to perform in a clinical leadership role evidenced by participation in practice development activities including mentoring and education. Contributes to relevant Communities of practice, policy development, research and quality improvement.
