What do we do?
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) was established to provide a coordinated and integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the South East Qld Region. The IUIH is a lead agency working in partnership with key stakeholders to support the effective implementation of the Council of Australian Governments ‘Closing the Gap’ initiatives.

This role: The Senior Psychiatrist plays a key role in the integrated multidisciplinary service team, in the development and implementation of specialised clinical programs and care focussed on addressing the mental health and wellbeing of clients and families. The position will provide Consultant Psychiatry services, support the cycle of continuous quality improvement in all aspects of mental health and welling service delivery and support the growth and development of a network of Specialist Psychiatry/Addiction Medicine providers and training and placement opportunities for Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine Registrars.
The position will be responsible for:
- Support and directly provide Consultant Psychiatry services across SEQ according to need Ensure professional delivery of quality care, in accordance with IUIH System of Care and as a member of the local multidisciplinary health team
- Ensure that clinical care is in line with accepted national ethical, legal and clinical standards
- Build relationships with clients that foster trust and engagement in the service
- Perform comprehensive assessments and prepare care plans and contribute to planned, coordinated and integrated continuing care for clients with mental health and substance misuse issues
- Provide clinical leadership in multidisciplinary case conferencing for clients with complex care needs
- Provide individual telehealth consultations where appropriate to support flexible arrangements
- Provide clinical advice and support to IUIH and member service GP’s and other senior clinicians
- Contribute to the maintenance of high quality information in electronic record systems
- Establish and maintain strong linkages with other health providers in the area
- Optimise MBS income generation to ensure billing is timely, compliant and appropriately captures comprehensive assessment, care planning and case conferencing
- Unrestricted registration with AHPRA; eligible to obtain provider number at all required clinic locations
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence
- Ability to travel across South East Queensland as required
- Specialist Psychiatry qualifications (FRANZCP)
- Minimum 5 years’ post-graduate Psychiatry experience
- Experience in provision of care for clients with addiction(s)
- Experience working in a community setting
