The Programs Department at Acacia Prison delivers offence specific interventions that focus on targeting specific prisoner needs, including violence and addictions. Programs are co-facilitated for 10-12 participants under the supervision of a Senior Supervisor and Program Manager. Our programs encourage, challenge and empower individuals to make positive and pro-social choices to benefit themselves, the prison and the wider community. 

 

The role of Program Psychologist/Social Worker is to deliver therapeutic criminogenic programs to support behaviour change for offenders, with the Program Psychologist typically facilitating higher intensity interventions. A key element of the role includes preparing accurate and defensible clinical documentation, including treatment reports and case notes. Additional responsibilities include undertaking specific tasks such as research and assessment duties as required, and supporting ongoing staff development and training activities.

 

To be considered for this role you will demonstrate the following:

Skills and Attributes -    

  • A commitment to and motivation to deliver quality intervention and program services to prisoners.
  • Highly effective and accurate report writing skills in the preparation of defendable documentation.
  • Understanding of how to utilise a structured cognitive behavioural approach to facilitate change in offender behaviour.
  • Understanding of the social and clinical variables associated with major offence categories.
  • Receptiveness to feedback from co-facilitators and the leadership team to ensure the provision of high quality psychological services and ongoing continuous improvement strategies.
  • Effective time management skills to ensure that department needs are met.

 

Education and Experience -  

  • Hold full registration with AHPRA as a Psychologist OR eligible for membership of the AASW as a Social Worker.
  • Experience of and demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the provision of psychological services and programs, preferably within a correctional, welfare or other institutional setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in group facilitation, ideally dealing with complex mental health of behavioural issues.
  • Experience within a correctional, welfare or other institutional setting would be highly regarded.
