NOTE: This role is based in regional Victoria - Malmsbury

Youth Justice Custodial Services aim to engage young people in change by addressing their offending behaviour and equipping them with the skills required for positive community participation, within a safe and secure environment.

 

About the role

As the Clinical Practitioner you will play a critical role in supporting the staff who work within the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct to maintain their own well-being by providing counselling, psychological first aid, critical incident stress debriefing and innovative wellbeing strategies, in line with the Staff Wellbeing Program.

In this role you will:

  • offer a personal and specialised service to staff promoting psychological wellbeing and preventing work related stress
  • implement the delivery of the staff wellbeing program, using evidence based clinical frameworks including mindfulness training
  • provide strategies to staff to assist with self-care, resilience and coping mechanisms for workplace related stress
  • educate stakeholders through your expertise about the importance of fostering and embedding the staff wellbeing program within Youth Justice.

You will not have contact with the young people in custody and whilst this position is based in Malmsbury, travel to the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct may be occasionally required.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • experience developing strategies to manage the personal impact of work related stress, such as vicarious trauma, burnout and compassion fatigue
  • a number of years' experience in critical incident stress management, using evidence based clinical frameworks
  • experience coaching managers to improve the psychological wellbeing of staff and the increased use of application of therapeutic skills and frameworks
  • the ability to work autonomously and be confident in the direction and advice you give to staff.

A qualification in psychology, social work or equivalent and eligibility for registration with the relevant practitioner regulation agency are required
