Use your critical-thinking, coordination and team work skills as a force for good and join Victoria Police. From detectives and victim-liaison officers to police divers and bomb-disposal specialists – a career with Victoria Police offers so many opportunities for adaptable, dedicated people.

You bring the passion and we’ll provide the training.

All police officers are required to undertake a minimum of 2 to 4 years of general duties policing working at police stations. This is where officers learn the foundation skills for their career in policing. General duties shifts are 8 hours in length and can be day, afternoon or night shifts. Shift work can have many benefits that office hours don’t – such as being able to drop the kids at school, pursue a hobby or undertake part-time studies.

From there, the options are as diverse as you are. You can manage teams, rise up the ranks, mentor others and learn specialist skills as part of areas like the Critical Incident Response Team, Highway Patrol, Crime Scene and Search and Rescue.

We offer job security and a range of great perks. You can expect to earn upwards of $70,000 in your first year, receive 9 weeks’ leave as well as other generous entitlements. Best of all is the chance to develop long-lasting friendships, while making a real difference to your community.

Or join Victoria Police as a Protective Services Officer, where you will be a valued member of the team and help to keep transport users safe. You will receive comprehensive training including the same weapons and self-defence training as police officers.  This important role offers a challenging career with good work-life balance and a great salary.

Victoria Police is recruiting 3,000+ police officers as well additional Protective Services Officers by 2020. If you have ever considered a career with Victoria Police, there is no better time to apply than now!

The Recruitment Process

The recruitment process starts with your online application and involves an exam, fitness test, psychology test, health check, video interview, panel interview and several prior history and character checks along the way—to ensure your values align with those of Victoria Police. The recruitment process can take in excess of 6 months and we urge you to start preparing now.
