About the Role

The Clinical Nurse (CN) role provides advanced expert clinical care in the area of sterilisation and/or disinfection of re-useable instruments and equipment required for patient interventional procedures and supporting the general function of the unit through the application of the principles of best practice, education, and leadership. This role can work autonomously or within the team structure and is pivotal in the planning, managing and delivering of sterilising services and the development of colleagues through training, instruction and demonstration. The role supports the Nurse Grade 7 or above in management activities and any portfolio responsibilities. 

  • Able to function in more complex situations while providing support and direction to RNs and ensuring ENs and unregulated healthcare workers (AINs) receive supervision and assistance.
  • Role models advanced planning, prioritisation and decision making in the clinical management of sterilisation, disinfection and identification of procedural needs.
  • Collaborates with the NUM and/or multidisciplinary team to develop, evaluate and update policies/guidelines/procedures in accordance with evidence based/informed criteria.
