The CCLHD Child and Family Health Service is seeking an experienced Level 1-2 Social Worker to join the Family Assessment, Consultation, Education and Therapy Team (FACET).  This clinical therapy team consist of experienced Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists and a Perinatal, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist The team provides a family focused therapy service for pre-school and primary school aged children and their families, addressing concerns about the child’s behaviour, emotions, social relationships and development. Staff members are based at Community Health Centres across the Central Coast.

What you'll be doing

  • To provide a professional social work service to children and their family/carers to ensure the provision of optimal health outcomes. The position is currently based in the FACET team (Family Assessment, Consultation, Education and Therapy). This position will work within a dedicated interdisciplinary team to deliver high quality care in a dynamic team environment 
  • Primarily the position is to provide assessment, counselling and therapeutic interventions to assist children and their family/carers to develop healthy and secure relationships within families  and to enhance whole family functioning and includes assessment, individual and family therapy, case co-ordination, group work and referral The social worker is to work closely with interdisciplinary colleagues and senior managers within Child and Family Health to ensure the development and delivery of effective and pro-active social work services. The social worker will be expected to be active in the areas of service development, service evaluation and staff and student teaching.

  • Qualification of a Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (overseas qualifications must supply the AASW Overseas Assessment number) and an eligible NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel for work. A demonstrated understanding of the current AASW Practice Standards as they relate to the position and a commitment to maintaining a professional skill and knowledge base.
  • A well developed understanding of psycho-social issues and attachment issues occurring during child development.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing therapeutic interventions with families-including individual and family counseling, a high level of assessment, brief intervention and group facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse problems, set priorities, apply a range of options to develop solutions and demonstrated experience in leading, conducting and evaluating quality activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development, evidence based practice and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute.
