- Permanent part-time, (15.2 hours per week)

An exciting opportunity now exists for a Consumer Peer Worker within Eastern Health’s Mental Health Program. The successful applicant will work at the Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Unit in the Eastern Metropolitan region of Melbourne.
Through sharing wisdom from their own mental health experiences, peer support workers provide support and inspire hope in the recovery journey of people accessing acute inpatient services.
The goal of this position is to provide tailored support to people in the discharge planning and post-discharge periods to minimise the risk of unplanned re-admission to a psychiatric inpatient unit and to establish or re-establish meaningful connections in the community.
You will work collaboratively with consumers, families and staff to assist in identifying needs and providing support. You will need to be able to reflect on your own mental health lived experience and be willing to utilise your experience to mentor and coach others to inspire hope, choice and self-determination. Using peer support you will assist and empower consumers to make informed choices about their recovery with an emphasis on building on strengths and seeking or maintaining connections, following a mental health inpatient admission.
As a peer support worker, you will receive the following additional benefits:
