The Trainee Environmental Health Officer position is the ideal opportunity for the right candidate to take the first steps to a successful and fulfilling career with a recognised industry leader.

What you will do:

You will develop the skills to provide professional environmental health (both natural and built environment that may affect human health) services to both Council and the community.

Your training will primarily be provided by Central Coast Council and will be supplemented with regular placements with Central Coast Local Health District. You will qualify as a graduate Environmental Health Officer

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted in the community as such;
  • Complete the Western Sydney University Confirmation of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander Identity form. Please Note: Completion of this form does not mean offering of this role, it is merely part of the process;
  • Ability to meet, within a maximum of six months of the commencement of employment (supported as required), the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Natural Science (Environment and Health) at the University of Western Sydney.
  • The commitment to complete the relevant degree in a part time capacity whilst working full time;
  • Knowledge and awareness of environmental health issues as they relate to Aboriginal people;
  • Ability to organise work and operate with minimal supervision;
  • First class computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies;
  • Current Driver’s License – Class C;
  • Demonstrated well-developed written and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiation, problem solving and conflict resolution to enable effective liaison with people at all levels.
