Leading one of only seven research portfolios, this role is a key leadership position in Manaaki Whenua. With responsibility for setting the direction for the Characterising Land Biota portfolio, this role is key to ensuring that the biologically-based Databases and Collections hosted by Manaaki Whenua meet New Zealand's biosecurity, conservation and Māori needs, both now and into the future.

We are looking for a Portfolio Leader with a demonstrated track-record in applied taxonomic research, with expertise in mycology and plant pathogen-focused science. The Portfolio Leader will bring extensive biosecurity and primary sector linkages, proven expertise in applying research to deliver impact, and knowledge of global trends to enhance the value of biological Collections. The ideal candidate will also have experience in the commercialisation of bioactives from micro-organisms. By preference, this permanent, full-time position, with hours split across Portfolio Leadership (0.8 FTE) and Research (0.2 FTE will be based at our Auckland site (Tamaki), but may also be based at our Christchurch (Lincoln) or Wellington sites. An ability to work regularly from all three locations is a requirement of the role.
