An opportunity exists for an Arabic speaking Corrections Intelligence Analyst on a 2 year fixed term basis within Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service.

About us

Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service (CVIS) is the overarching intelligence service for Corrections Victoria (CV) and its stakeholders. Presently the CVIS comprises the primary intelligence unit known as the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit (CVIU), and Prison Intelligence Unit (PIU) located at the twelve public and two private prison facilities in Victoria.

About the role

The Corrections Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for collecting, recording, analysing and disseminating information, with a specific focus on high security prisoners to identify potential prisoner incidents/unrest, prevent prisoner escapes, prevent the introduction of contraband within CV facilities and identify and report on issues relating to certain prisoners wishing to apply for parole.

The role reports to the Senior Corrections Intelligence Analyst and will contribute to both tactical and strategic intelligence functions, and analyse and present intelligence information to management and authorised persons/external agencies as required.  This position is created to prison management in maintaining the security, good order and management of prison facilities. 

Key accountabilities will include interpreting between Arabic and English language with accuracy and clarity which may require in-frequent contact with prisoners and interpreting Arabic spoken language and translating Arabic written language into English language for prison and CV management.

There may be a requirement to work from Statewide Service Building in Ravenhall but you may also be required to work from various locations including 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne, or any Victorian Correctional Facility if a business need arises.

There may also be a requirement to work outside of normal business hours and some travel and overnight stays.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

• Fluency in and comprehension of Arabic language.
• Native level proficiency in English.
• The capacity to interpret Arabic language in a correctional environment and relating to correctional subject matter.
• Experience in delivering both tactical and strategic intelligence functions in a correctional or law enforcement setting
• Knowledge of contemporary principles and practises that apply to intelligence functions within the criminal justice system and across intelligence agencies
• Knowledge of the Corrections Act 1986 and Corrections Regulations 1998
• Experience in the use of information management systems, preferably Palantir and/or other data managing technologies is highly desirable.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or thematic knowledge.
• Possession of, or progression towards, an accredited Intelligence Analyst qualification would be advantageous
• National Accreditation Authority of Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) accreditation in Arabic Language.

Successful candidates will also need to acquire a Neg Vet 1 Security clearance within 12 months of taking up the position.
