Play a crucial role in the security of your community and in the rehabilitation of offenders by using your training, specialist background and strong communication skills to be an agent for change and model the behaviour that will help offenders move back into the community successfully.
Using your life experience and great communication skills you will supervise offenders and contribute to their rehabilitation by providing leadership, advice, support and guidance. You will have the potential to be the difference that helps prisoners turn their lives around.

What will you be doing?
- Supervise and instruct in your specialist area
- Monitoring and assessing prisoner behaviour
- Operating security equipment
- Person and facilities searches
- Escort duties as required
- Participating in programs and prisoner rehabilitation activities
- Writing case notes and reports
- Responding to prison incidents
What do you need to be successful in the role?
Life experience, communication skills and resilience are the most valuable thing you can bring to this role. Great Trade Instructors come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a broad range of work experience and skills. You will either have had a career in textiles or dressmaking.
Possession of the relevant vocational qualification or trade certificate or equivalent industry experience in the activities or trade for which you are applying to be an instructor is very highly regarded e.g Textiles or Dress Making
Sound knowledge and understanding of occupational health & safety requirements and its application within the context of a workshop and/or industry environment is essential.
No previous experience or specific qualifications are required for the custodial Officer part of your role as we provide comprehensive training but you must be able to demonstrate the below:
