About the Role:
Contribute to the delivery of State Heritage and Aboriginal Place Listings Programs including working with communities and owners to understand the significance of cultural heritage items and places.  Contribute to assessment reports for the Heritage Council and delegates of the Heritage Council.
 
Contribute to repatriation and conservation programs including liaising with Aboriginal communities and land managers to enhance their ability to protect and manage Aboriginal cultural heritage.
 
You will collaborate with statewide teams, prepare written documents including reports, briefing papers, correspondence, submissions and advice on operational heritage and cultural issues, and liaise and provide information to a range of stakeholders to promote awareness of heritage and to improve heritage management.
 
Primary purpose of the role:
This role contributes to the implementation and delivery of heritage initiatives, programs and services at a regional level for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal heritage. The role contributes to the delivery of the Heritage Division’s vision of Celebrating, Sharing and Connecting our stories, our history and places in NSW for the Region.  Essential requirements:
  • This role is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only.
  • The Office of Environment and Heritage considers that being an Australian Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this role in accordance with Sections 14 and 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and under Clause 26 of the Government Sector Employment (General) Rules 2014.
  • A broad knowledge and appreciation of natural and cultural values with the ability to apply appropriate emphasis and sensitivity to Aboriginal cultural heritage aspects and willingness to work within OEH policy on these.
  • Tertiary qualifications or sound experience in heritage, Aboriginal cultural heritage or relevant field.
  • Drivers Licence and willingness to travel.
 To be successful in the role, ideally you will have:
Written and verbal communication skills and be motivated to conserve, protect, study and promote both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cultural heritage through SW NSW.  You will also have knowledge or experience in heritage listings programs, experience in cultural heritage assessments (preferably in the Murray, Riverina or Mallee region), and the ability to work independently and as part of a remotely based team.
