The Department of Defence is seeking an outstanding senior executive to fill the Senior Executive Service Band 2 position of General Manager Ships, based in Canberra.

The General Manager Ships is responsible for setting in place the Government’s continuous naval shipbuilding program based around the Future Frigate and Offshore Patrol Vessel projects. In addition, the position is responsible for the acquisition of a range of other Australia’s naval surface ship programs including Air Warfare Destroyers, Replenishment ships, Pacific Patrol Boat Replacements, associated combat management systems, related shipbuilding infrastructure, and some 25 other shipbuilding projects or activities. Supporting the Deputy Secretary Capability Acquisition and Sustainment, the position will lead and shape the future of Australian naval shipbuilding, and will oversee all aspects of naval surface ship acquisition activities.
We are looking for a person who:
•    possesses expertise in naval and industrial engineering with strong program management;
•    has a proven complex program delivery record;
•    is capable of managing an integrated workforce of Australian Public Service, Australian Defence Force and industry personnel through significant organisational reform; and
•    have proven negotiation skills.
